Although I have lived in Denver my whole life, I have never been to Observatory Park before. I chose this location mostly because it was the closest one around. It was about a 20 minute walk from campus, and as a student without a car, it was the one I thought I could comfortably get to pretty often.
The first thing I noticed about the area was the trees. In my part of Denver, we had mostly small saplings, and I always wished for bigger ones growing up. The trees, along the walk and in the actual park, are huge, towering over you.
Within the park, I noticed two two sides, seperated by a street. There was the side full of trees and tennis courts, and on this side was the Chamblin Obseratory building and a garden. This side was filled with only a few people, and was pretty quiet. On the other side, there was a playground, picnic tables, and a lot of open space. There were kids playing on the play ground, and people had set up a volleyball court too. There was a party that overtook the tables, with food and drinks and a lot of people.
Although it was still boiling hot out, I saw some of the leaves changing, turing to orange, the first signs of fall.
I saw a ton of squirrels, and while I was there, I tried to draw one I saw eating.
When I looked closer at the base of some of the trees, I discovered some mushrooms growing there!
I'm excited to come back and see how it has changed!
